K-SAA Interviews: Jerrold Hogle and Anne Mellor, Frankenstein Then and Now
Today we’re delighted to share an interview with Professor Jerrold Hogle and Professor Anne K. Mellor following the recent publication of a special issue of the Huntington Library Quarterly entitled ‘Frankenstein and Its Environments: Then and Now’.
This special issue was edited by Professor Hogle, and is available to read online now.
The collection stems from the 2018 conference, ‘Frankenstein Then and Now – 1818-2018’, at the Huntington Library and Museum. This event, chaired by Professor Hogle and Professor Mellor, celebrated the bicentennial of Frankenstein’s publication.
Professor Jerry Hogle is Professor Emeritus and University Distinguished Professor at the University of Arizona’s Department of English.
He was named a Distinguished Scholar of the Keats-Shelley Association of America in 2012. He has published extensively on English Romantic literature, literary and cultural theory, and the many different forms of the Gothic. His books include, among others, Shelley’s Process from Oxford University Press.
Professor Anne Mellor is Distinguished Research Professor of English and Women’s Studies at UCLA.
Her scholarly interests focus on eighteenth and nineteenth-century British literature, women’s writing, feminist theory, and the visual arts. She is the author of, amongst other texts, Mothers of the Nation – Women’s Political Writing in England, 1780-1830, English Romantic Irony, and Mary Shelley: Her Fiction, Her Life, Her Monsters. In 1999 she was awarded the Keats-Shelley Association of America Distinguished Scholar Award.
