Meet the New K-SAA Communications Fellows 2020-21

Each academic year, the K-SAA appoints two Communications Fellows. These Fellows assist the Director of Communications (Anna Mercer) and the K-SAA Secretary (Kate Singer) in engaging with, and creating online content for, academic and non-academic communities interested in the Romantic period – especially those interested in the second generation of Romantic authors. They help to run the K-SAA social media accounts (Twitter and Facebook) and the Blog.We are delighted to announce that two new Fellows have been appointed for 2020-21. They begin their Fellowship in August 2020. You can read about what they plan to work on in the coming year below. We'd like to thank all those who applied, as we received many excellent applications this year.Thank you also to all our previous Fellows, and a special thank you to our outgoing Communications Team, Eleanor Bryan and Carly Yingst. They've produced excellent work for the K-SAA over the past year, and we hope you've enjoyed the content they've shared - we're very grateful for their time and expertise! The new K-SAA Communications Fellows 2020-21 are:

Mariam Wassif

I received my PhD from Cornell University in 2018 with a specialization in British and French literature of the long eighteenth century, including Romanticism, and I'm currently a postdoc at the University of Paris 1- Panthéon-Sorbonne. I study notions of beauty, artifice, and style in literature and material culture around 1800. As Communications Fellow for K-SAA, I'm excited to promote work by early career scholars, especially scholars of color, and to create thoughtful content that can be enjoyed by both specialists and the wider public. I welcome content on global and postcolonial Romanticism. I hope to help cultivate a supportive community that delights in the literature of the Keats-Shelley circle while expanding our received notions of the Romantic movement. Please get in touch about your work, your ideas, and what you'd like to see on our social media!@DrMariamWassif

Amy Wilcockson

I am a PhD researcher at the University of Nottingham. My thesis focuses on creating an edition of the letters of the neglected Scottish Romantic poet, Thomas Campbell (1777-1844). I am also interested in life-writing and letters in general, canon formation and non-canonical Romantic authors and poets, regional Nottinghamshire writers and literary rebels – which includes, of course, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron! As a K-SAA Communications Fellow, I’m particularly interested in creating a series of blog posts surrounding marginal Romantic figures and those not considered canonical from around the world, including those not usually studied in the USA and UK. As someone who spends far too much time in archives, I also propose creating a series of ‘behind the scenes’ blogs, featuring usually unseen archival items from a variety of collections, making use particularly of the Keats-Shelley House’s new digital collections archive. Living not too far from Newstead Abbey, I’m sure there will be a lot of Byron’s ancestral home making an appearance too! I’m a PGR, and I think it would be wonderful to have a dedicated series of blog posts focusing on PGR and ECR researchers, with interviews and features written about their research and publications. I’m very excited to be working with the K-SAA and look forward to the fruitful and engaging year ahead!
